More than 3,000 COVID-19 Cases in the Philippines

The total number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases nationwide leapt to 3,018 after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 385 new cases and 29 new deaths on Friday.

The total number of (COVID-19) cases in the Philippines leapt to 3,018 after the Department of Health (DOH) reported three hundred eighty five (385) new cases.

Twenty-nine new fatalities were reported Friday—the biggest one-day leap since the outbreak began in the Philippines bringing the death toll up to 136.

As of Friday, there have been more than 1 million COVID-19 patients around the world, according to the Johns Hopkins University coronavirus dashboard. Of that number, 53,000 have died and more than 212,000 have already recovered.

COVID-19 is a respiratory illness caused by the novel coronavirus or SARS-CoV-2, which outbreak started in China’s Wuhan City in Hubei province in late 2019.

The coronavirus causes mild symptoms such as fever and cough but it can be high risk for other people, especially older adults and those with underlying health issues.
